Identify Film/Projects Market

The film that I am working on is called Bugged Off. The team and their roles are as follows:

Maik Pham Quang - Director, Character Artist, Compositor, Render Wrangler, Lighting Artist and Animator.

Natalia Altavilla - Co-Director, Compositor, Lead Environment Artist and Animator.

(Myself) Ed Randall - Environment Modeller, Animator.

Matt Alford - Animator.

I believe the target market for our film is quite a broad age range, I would say that our film will appeal most to people that fit the bracket of children to young adult. So I'm going to say our target market is both male and female aged from 7 to 20. I think that is usually too broad of an age range and makes it harder for us to market our film because we have to cater for everyone in our age range meaning. So we have a much broader area to cover. However I think that the reason our film's target market is so broad is because our film contains a mix of genres. Our film contains action, comedy with a perhaps a small sense of a thriller. The reason I think children around the age of 7 will like it is because it contains a bit of a tom and jerry formula in a way which you have the two characters and one is out to get the other.

One of the main ways we intend to market our film is by having a website or blog. We have currently started working on a Blog for our film, however it still has a long way to go and is still a work in progress. Here is a link Bugged Off Blog. Another way we will be marketing our film is through posters. These will mostly come into play at the degree show where we will have them at our table. The reason we will have our posters at our table at the degree show is to try and generate some interest in our film. Hopefully our posters will lure people into wanting to watch our film. I am also hoping that by having our posters at our table at the degree show the people that have seen our film will see our posters and will immediately identify us as the team that worked on Bugged Off. So hopefully the posters will have two purposes. Matt has designed the posters for our film. Below is an image of Matts poster design, I think that he has to re tweak the design slightly before we have our final poster but you can still get an idea of what our posters will look like.

So as you can see we took the 2D route for the poster however I still think that it portrays our film well. One of the main things that we wanted for our poster was to advertise our film but not give away too much. I think this poster does that really well. I think that if we have any spare time in between the completion of the film and the degree show then we will also be making a 3D poster so that we have two poster designs. Most films in the film industry have more than one poster they usually have several.

We also intend to use viral marketing to reach most of our target market. So we will be using our website or blog, Twitter, Facebook, and try to gain some attention through Vimeo and Youtube. These techniques will reach most of our target market as a wide range of teenagers have access to the internet and most people that have access to the internet have a Twitter, Facebook, Vimeo or Youtube account, and of course anyone with access to the internet will be able to access our website or blog. However I believe that the better the film the more marketing it does for you.

Once we have completed our film we intend to enter it into some animation film festivals. One of the animation festivals that we are currently looking into is the London International Animation Festival however our film will not be finished until may and in order for us to apply to this animation festival we would have to applied in January so we have missed this years deadline, however there is always the  possibility of us applying next year when the film is finished. Other animation film festivals that we are considering applying to are the Bradford Animation Festival, Canterbury Anifest and many others.
